Indonesian Medical Device Companies Hold Collaborations and Trade Transactions at MEDICA 2023

Thepresidentpost.id - Düsseldorf, Germany - Expanding its market access to Europe, Indonesian medical device companies hold collaborations and trade transactions at the MEDICA 2023 health equipment exhibition worth IDR 363.08 billion and launched the world's first natural-based Bone Graft product (16/11). The event was attended by more than 6,200 multinational companies showcasing over 22,000 types of health equipment products.

Indonesia's participation in one of the world's largest health equipment exhibitions reaffirms its efforts to expand market access to European markets. This also demonstrates the capabilities of Indonesian companies in producing health equipment with international standards, driven by the collaboration between the Indonesian Embassy in Berlin with the Ministry of Trade, the Ministry of Health, and the Indonesian Medical Device Manufacturers Association (Aspaki).

Arif Havas Oegroseno, the Indonesian Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany, opened the Indonesian Pavilion, attended by the Directorate General of Pharmacy and Medical Devices of the Indonesian Ministry of Health, the Directorate General of National Export Development of the Indonesian Ministry of Trade, the Consul General of Indonesia in Frankfurt, and a delegation from the Indonesian health industry.

The Indonesian Pavilion occupied Hall 17, with an area of 120 m², featuring the participation of 13 companies, along with 1 additional company in a separate hall. The position of the Indonesian Pavilion in Hall 17 was alongside and competitive with pavilions from other countries/regions such as Italy, France, Belgium, the United States, Japan, China, Pakistan, Morocco, Brazil, Switzerland, and Taiwan.

Indonesian companies at MEDICA 2023 showcased various leading health equipment, such as bone graft equipment, colposcopy machines, ICU ventilators, spinal screw systems, electric hospital beds, syringes, surgical equipment, cardiograph​​ scanning equipment, dialysis machines, humidifiers, surgical gloves, reagent test equipment, and disposable surgical supplies.

During the 4 days of the MEDICA event, Indonesian medical device companies recorded collaborations and trade transactions worth IDR 363.08 billion (USD 21.5 million). Collaborations and trade transactions were conducted by PT Graha Tekno Medika, PT Forsta Kalmedic Global, PT Kalgen DNA, PT Swayasa Prakarsa, PT Prima Alkesindo Nusantara, and PT IDBH Utama Jaya, together with international business partners from Germany, Switzerland, France, the Netherlands, China, and Vietnam.

In addition to trade transactions, the launch of the Bone Graft product made from eggshells took place. Bone graft is a bone substitute material used to accelerate bone healing in cases of bone fractures with bone defects. The bone graft product contains calcium from chicken eggshells with an advanced purification process to obtain pure calcium, which is environmentally friendly and claimed to be the first in the world to use natural raw materials. The product is the result of a collaboration between Gadjah Mada University, PT Berkah Instalasi Medika, and PT Astra Komponen Indonesia.

Medical device export to Germany aligns with Indonesia's efforts to meet Germany's top 10 import needs. In 2022, the health equipment product group (HS90) was the fifth most imported product group by Germany. Germany's total trade with the world in health equipment products (HS90) amounted to USD 125.8 billion, with imports totalling USD 46.9 billion. Germany's HS90 import trend during the period 2018-2022 increased by 1.22%. Meanwhile, Indonesia's export of health equipment products to Germany in 2022 amounted to USD 53.8 million.
